Just playing my copy of 'Guilty', the Barbara Streisand album I purchased in 1980 from Preslands Ltd at 92 High Street Stevenage for £4.99. A great little shop.

A family run business from the 1960s. Although a record store Preslands also had carried out electronic repairs at the back of their premises of TV, radio and musical instrument amplifiers. They used to retail electronic components too to the public and was always happy to give technical advice on electronic circuits. Many young experimenters were helped start a lucrative career in electronics thanks to them. Preslands relocated in the 70s from a nearby side street to High St, 99.

This was my Dad's shop and I spent many happy hours in there, as a child, hunting through the vinyl and watching Keith at the back of the shop fixing and repairing all manor of electronic equipment. Dad always inspected every vinyl LP before selling it and the label was his way of giving it a clean bill of health. Originally, my Grandad owned Presland's and it was mainly an electronics repair shop located, just around the corner, in Green Street.

Comment: Just playing Rick Wakeman's Criminal Record and saw a Preslands sticker on the record label. I remember the shop and used to pop in en route home from school.
