I found this in the 'Nottingham Evening Post' dated 22nd October 1979: “MANAGEMENT staff at Pearson Brothers, Nottingham, have turned the clock back deliberately in an “Are you being served?” event. The departmental store is celebrating its 90th birthday and the Victorian costumes are to mark the occasion. “The management staff are wearing the sort of clothes that were worn when the shop was founded”, said Mr Arthur Wells, one of the store's directors, who has been there for 40 years. Founded when Mr Frederick Pearson bought an ironmonger’s shop on Long Row, the shop frontage was only 15 ft then. Now it's 93 ft. The Pearson family are still the main shareholders. It’s the sort of store that encourages loyalty and tradition. “We’re not having a bean-feast because we’re planning a bonanza for our 100th birthday. But we are encouraging customers to join in the 90th birthday celebrations until next Saturday by offering a £1 gift voucher for every £10 a customer spends” added Mr Wells.”
