I found this on page 11 of the 'Streatham News' dated 21st September 1934: “A BIG SALE - Firm of Wallace Hughes Closing. Particular interest is attached to the announcement issued by Quin and Axtens, of Brixton, which appears on Page 1 to-day. This firm have been successful in obtaining, at a large discount, the whole of the stock of Mr. Wallace Hughes, of Brixton, who is retiring from business. For upwards of a quarter of a century Wallace Hughes have been recognised as a South London store for exceptionally keen value. Quin and Axtens are to offer this stock for sale on Thursday, October 4, commencing at 9 a.m., at extraordinary price reductions.”
