I found this piece in the 'Newcastle Journal' dated 10th October 1991: “RECORDS: Volume Records, Ridley Place: The ultimate place to get your records. They don't buy or sell second-hand, but they do have an incredible selection, from ska to soul and house to hip hop.”
A-Z prev: Volcanic Tongue
A-Z next: Volume One Records
Name: Citizenwatt
Comment: In Newcastle there was the excellent Listen Ear around the corner from City Hall. It later became Volume Records and even had a short-lived record label (The Toy Dolls). Spent a fortune over the years in there, really great knowledgeable staff.
Name: Martyn Cain
Comment: Frequented this store from the late eighties through to the mid-nineties when it relocated slightly and renamed itself Surface Noise. I can't remember the manager's name, but I bumped into him and his partner at the album launch for UFOrb by The Orb at the Planetarium in London (June 1992), oh happy days...
