I used to travel up from Dartford each weekend purely to go to Unity and then on to Black Market.... Best days of my life... People were friendly and always came away from them both with some banging tune... Oh to be 15-16 again!

I found this piece in the 'Daily Express' dated 3rd December 1993: “DANCE MUSIC - UNITY RECORDS, 47 Beak Street, W 1 (071 734 2746). Open 10am to 7pm Mon-Sat. A DJ’s dream with the latest tec and dance import records on vinyl. It's like entering the Ministry of Sound on a Saturday night. The decor is black and the heavy bass lines pumping out of the sound system shake the whole shop. The assistants can’t hear what you are saying and they can be a bit pretentious.”

Comment: I used to pop into Unity whenever I went up London. I had a Unity record bag that I would take to school.
Unity was never as iconic as Blackmarket round the corner, but you could still find quality tunes, and had slightly more chance of getting served quicker!

Comment: I shopped at Unity every possible Saturday I could - they always had what you wanted, a good solid record shop - good times.
