Track Records, the independent York shop on which three generations of youth have converged for their top-of-the-charts hits, is to close its doors in Goodramgate - defeated by the internet downloading revolution.
"People simply are not passing through the doors," said owner Keith Howe, who in January closed his Doncaster branch with the loss of five jobs after sustaining a year's losses.

Track's Doncaster shop opened on St Sepulchre Gate in about 1987. The town briefly had Track, Our Price and Andy's, a Peterborough based chain that had a burst of expansion in the mid 80s as well as the venerable Fox's. HMV also opened a store in about 1989.

I loved that place, cheap cds at the back!
Best job ever. Paid peanuts, but the perks such as gig tickets and stock at wholesale plus vat was always a perk! Had three stints there between 89 - 2001, broken up by Uni and then traveling. Loved every minute of it
Loved going into Track Records in Fossgate and Coppergate Centre and High Ousegate,Ben always looked after me with recommendations and his music knowledge was immense Rip Ben
What an era for music retail...!
