Comment: Still trading after 25 years or so in my estimation. Best used record and CD store in Reading and possibly the best in the UK as it has fast-changing high-quality stock and knowledgable friendly staff. The stock is also well arranged and presented in the shop. Lots of low-priced items as well as more expensive rarities and collectables. I would highly recommend.

I found this advert in the 'Reading Evening Post' dated 20th August 1992: “THE SOUND MACHINE, UNIT 12, HARRIS ARCADE, STATION ROAD, READING (200 yards from READING STATION towards BURGER KING) TEL: (0734) 575075. NEW WAVE • INDIE • ALTERNATIVE • METAL • ROCK • POP • SOUL • JAZZ - VINYL • CASSETTES • C.D.s - NEW & USED - BOUGHT/SOLD/EXCHANGED.”
… and this in the 5th December 1996 edition: “THE SOUND MACHINE Big Savings on Chart CD's at 112 BROAD ST. MALL, READING. Tel: 0118 959 9040; 24 HARRIS ARCADE, STATION ROAD, READING Tel: 0118 957 5075.”
