Newton Street and the area surrounding it has since been replaced by the Cleveland Centre.

Name: Gordon Baxter
Comment: The shop was owned by Dean Wycherly who was quite a character and he is well remembered by many of the older generation here at the Evening Gazette. Dean specialised in being able to supply the most obscure albums by bands hardly anyone had heard of as well as all the current chart albums. When the street disappeared Dean reopened his shop on an entrance corner to the new shopping centre and was there well into the 1980s.

Saturday mornings in the mid- to late-1970s regularly involved time spent rummaging through the racks of Hamiltons, The Record Shop and Fearnleys. Fearnleys used to have a numbered, handwritten list of punk/new wave singles just above the counter. Happy Days.
