Comment: I used to get my CDs from Summit Records back then. Lovers Rock, lol. And pop downstairs to get my fruits and veg from Carl.

Name: Michael Toni
Comment: Summit Records, one of two the owner, Winston had in the city. Navigation Street was the one I used the most. It was under the ramp (McDonalds). We helped design Summit's logo and printed all his stationery. Great buzz we had buying your newly released reggae and dancehall upstairs or soul, funk, disco downstairs.

I found this piece in the 'Sutton Coldfield News' dated 19th February 1988: “Aubrey Nathan began his musical career with Baileys Records in the Bull Ring Market and more recently, with SUMMIT RECORDS. A talented musician, currently the bass guitarist with local reggae band ‘Hearts of Men’.”

Re: Summit Records. I remember it having a branch or it was then it’s only branch (pre it’s move to on the periphery of The Bull Ring as pictured in the photo accompanying the magazine article re J Simmit) on New Street way towards the top near what since became known as “The Floozy in the Jacuzzi “ on the right as you walked up from Corporation Street.
It was a tiny box of a room down a steep narrow flight of stairs where the bass would accost you with massive force as you went thru the door.
Strange to recall but I remember the young guy (again, pictured, in specs within that mag articl) used to play snatches of 12” s that had just arrived from America. Just enough to get you hooked and buy a copy. Not an import but I vividly remember him “dropping” Sussudio by Phil Collins so this must have been 1986?
