Streetsounds was primarily a Soul & Reggae outlet based in Sydney St. selling new releases, 12" singles, Albums & disco etc 76/81.
I can't remember the owners name ,but the guy who ran it was Rich Robinson or Rob to his mates. Originally an history Lecturer at Sussex University, he became dissolutioned & fancied a change,& because of his love of soul music ended up in Streetsounds & it came with a flat above the shop.
During quieter moments in the shop Rob would write reviews of the current new releases for Stuart Cosgrove ( the then editor of Black echoes ) in his own unique & very humourous style, well worth searching for.
The above photo is Sarah Crick of Streetsounds ( Robs partner )left, Dave Walmsley, Northern Soul DJ & promoter center, & David Hughes Tamla Motown Manager, at the launch by EMI of 'Frank Wilson ,Do I Love You (indeed I do )'TMG 1170 , Nov.79 at the Grand Hotel Brighton .
