I found this in the 'Newcastle Evening Chronicle' dated 4th December 1991: “The Newcastle upon Tyne office of international property consultants Chesterton, whose retail department handles all lettings at the MetroCentre, report their third letting to record company Solid Sounds of 2,500 sq ft which represents a five-fold increase in their unit size since they first moved into the MetroCentre five years ago. Solid Sounds started in a small way with a 500 sq ft unit. Their second move was into a larger unit of 1,500 sq ft and now they have just taken over the 2,500 sq ft unit formerly occupied by New Fashions. Solid Sounds is in direct competition with Our Price who occupy 5,500 sq ft of space in the Centre.”

I found this in the 'Newcastle Evening Chronicle' dated 7th April 1994: “Crowds to see group. NEW pop sensations EYC look set to cause pandemonium when they arrive on Tyneside next week. Security at Solid Sounds record store at the Met-Centre, Gateshead, is being stepped up to cope with the hundreds of girls expected to turn up to see the threesome EYC - which stands for Express Yourself Clearly - are the latest all-male band to take the charts by storm, already scoring two top 20 hits within the past few months.”
...and this in the 'Hartlepool Northern Daily Mail' dated 8th August 1995: “SOLID SOUNDS require a FULL-TIME SALES ASSISTANT for their Hartlepool Branch. Previous experience preferred but not essential. To apply send a CV and covering letter to the Manager, Solid Sounds, 938 Middleton Grange Shopping Centre, Hartlepool, TS24 7RJ. Tel. (01429) 278568.”
