Comment: I worked at Siren Records in the early 1980s, in fact I started in 1980 I believe and was there for two or three years. I remember the classical department got moved from the basement to the much bigger ground floor and the basement became the Rock/Pop department. I mainly worked in the basement and it was so busy at weekends. I remember Dale Winton shopping there in his radio days, he was a very nice chap. I believe the shop changed its name again but I can't remember what to.

I found this advert in the 'Derby Daily Telegraph' dated 29th January 1988: “SIREN RECORDS 3-4 Strand Arcade, Sadler Gate, Derby. Telephone: 43762.”

Prior to Sirens it was Dixons.
As you say Siren basement was the rock department. They did a good line in budget imports, tbough they often had cuts to the cover. I picked up a US
Pink Sex Pistols from there.
