Comment: Russell's sold hi-fi equipment at the front of the shop and you went right to the back of the shop down the steps to a small record department. The kind lady would put on a record for you before you bought it! Closed early 1980s? Became Adams for a long time afterwards.

Comment: My first Saturday job was in the record section at the back, top songs Bachelor Boy by Cliff and Return To Sender by Elvis. good memories.

Comment: They used to stock a great selection of hard-to-get rockabilly, so was frequented often by the several hundred rockabilly fans in Hinckley in the mid to late 1970s. Of course, it helped that the owners loved the music as well.

“RUSSELLS GRAMOPHONE DEPARTMENT Have pleasure in announcing that all their Records Stock are sold at 33% Purchase Tax only. Complete range of Symphonies and Concertos in stock. RUSSELLS, 99 GRANBY STREET, LEICESTER.”
... and this piece in the 25th November 1988 edition: “... a woman with a long experience in record retailing, Josie Moore, has been in the trade for 30 years, a quarter of a century working for the late Mr. Charles Payne at Russells on Castle Street and, for the past six years, as manageress at Shooting Star on Market Place.”
