Comment: Basingstoke’s Rumbelows occupied a shop at 17/18, Kensington House in what we are today forced to call The Malls. It was where Thornton’s or the Natwest Bank is today (though it may have moved before Rumbelows was itself devoured by Thorn EMI in the late eighties). It sold records as well as electrical goods; hi-fi and washing machines.
