Comment: In the early 1960s I lived at home with my parents in Hayes, west London, and just around the corner was Rowley's where, each Saturday morning, a gang of us teenagers would gather to chat and listen to that week's new releases, occasionally buying the odd 45.

Comment: Wonderful memories, 1964 the first 45 I bought was Here I Go Again by The Hollies. I loved this record shop, happy times. Later I loved the knowledge that many of the records that I bought were pressed just down the road at "The Gram'' or HMV.

I found this obituary in the 'Hayes & Harlington Gazette' dated 27th July 1994: “OBITUARY - Rock star's tribute to shop owner: SIXTIES rock star Cliff Bennett paid tribute to long-standing friend and respected record shop owner John Rowley, who died recently. Born and bred in Hayes, Mr. Rowley ran Rowley's Electrical store which was regularly visited in the late fifties and early sixties by Cliff and his band, the Rebel Rousers. Mr. Bennett said he used to spend whole mornings in the shop listening to obscure records which Mr Rowley had managed to track down. He was a great help to us, he said. Not a lot of people said 'come in, have a coffee, there are loads of records in here I think you'll like'.”

Just purchased an LP online which appears to have been first sold from this store sometime around November 1967 judging by the date stampo on the inner! Sad to see so few of these places from history survive...
