The Sound Centre store opened at this location on 10th December 1975, becoming Ripping Records in 1978. Ripping was named after the Michael Palin series “Ripping Yarns” airing on the BBC between 1977-1979. Thank you to John for the information.

I found this picture caption on p12 of the 'Edinburgh Evening News' dated 29th November 1994:
“BIG FAN: John Richardson of Ripping Records with some of his Beatles collection.”
...and this piece (about the release of 'The Beatles at the BBC') on the same page:
“Beatles fan John Richardson, who owns Ripping Records in South Bridge, Edinburgh, already has a vast personal collection of Fab Four recordings. He told the News: “Every collector will want this. There'll be thousands of copies flooding into the city. But some people might be surprised because there is a lot of rock and roll songs and not too many melodies.”
