The Recorderie, Stanmore's first and only record store, opened in 1961 at 19 Church Road, next door to Regent House. The owner, Alan Hill, was remarkably friendly and patient with his young enthusiastic customers including myself. This was in the days when one could go into a booth and listen to records before deciding whether or not to buy them.
In 1963 the shop in Church Road closed and The Recorderie moved to new premises on two floors at 10 Buckingham Parade a little way up the hill on the right-hand side.
