I found this in the 'Huddersfield Daily Examiner' dated 21st July 1999: “HUDDERSFIELD duo Harlem Gem are making their mark on the British reggae scene with the release of their first album. Richmond Quarshie and Lloyd Charles (aka Richy Gem and Lloydie Gem) started making music in 1989 and their 16-track album 'Hungry' is finally in the shops. Released on independent label Boss Records and recorded, mixed and self-produced in Leeds, it has already been highly acclaimed in the reggae press. One critic described their “perky, elevating” sounds as the best thing emerging on the UK scene for a long time. Another said the debut contained something for all mellow reggae enthusiasts. Huddersfield shops including PRESSURE RECORDS in Halifax Old Road, Birkby, are stocking the CD and mainstream distribution means it’s easily available on order.”
