Pop Inn Discount Records

“Pop Inn Records, Chelmsford – This was a small, independent record shop on Baddow Road. It was a bit of a Tardis on the inside, you'd always think it couldn't sell that many records but they always seemed to have everything you asked for. In the good old days, all the vinyl was in proper cardboard boxes, as it should be, sectioned according to genre. Pop Inn relocated to Moulsham Street for a while but then closed.”

Many of the LPs I still own and play were bought from Pop Inn In Baddow Road. They had absolutely EVERYTHING, I think it was run by a guy called Martin who soon sussed the music you liked, so when you Popped In ( literally) he would suggest having a listen to a new release. It was (sometimes!) conveniently next door to a betting shop and on the rare occasions I backed a winner, I would spend the proceeds at Pop Inn. The shop moved to London Road in Chelmsford but it was never so magical as the original Tardis shop.
