I found an advert in the 'Alderley & Wilmslow Advertiser' dated 20th March 1980: “3,000 LPs, music cassettes, music books & sheet music, etc. PLAYBACK (The Music Centre), 43 Woodford Road, Bramhall Tel: 061-439 7946; Queensway Precinct, Poynton. Tel: Poynton 6753.”

I remember the shop fairly well. It was one of two record shops in Bramhall (the other being Ken Palk). This was located where the clothing shop 'Angela Beer' is now. I think there were three shop units there at the time. It was quite a cosy shop - a very Fiftes/early-Sixties feel about it and I prefered it in almost every way to Ken Palk. Run by a cigar-smoking guy. Together with the old Woolworths across the road, it was where I bought my first punk records - incl. the Pistols God Save the Queen 7" that my mum wanted to destroy! I seem to remeber a bargain box on the counter that had a John Cale album in it: "who the hell is John Cale" I wondered. I would have been about 12/13.
