I found this advert in the 'Streatham News' dated 10th March 1961: “VISIT THE NEW RECORD SHOP: PETER'S, LONGLEY ROAD, TOOTING JUNCTION - NOW OPEN!”
A-Z prev: Peter Russells Hot Record Store
A-Z next: Petronix
Name: Jackie Theobald
Comment: Was it called Squires before it became Peter's? Presumably they are the same shop.

Comment: Yes. I think there were two shops originally. Peter used to mention 'Old Man Squires' sometimes.
I believe Peter took over the shop in the early or mid 1960s. He was definitely there in 1966, because I used to buy records from him to play on my first record player. The left-hand window of the shop originally contained toys, but these were eventually scrapped and by 1970 Peter sold only records. He eventually closed the shop in October 1974 and some of his customers switched to buying their records at a new record shop - Just Sounds in Streatham Road, Mitcham. Peter, in fact gave his old record racks to Mick & Marie who ran the Streatham Road shop. His old shop was taken over by a second-hand dealer and Peter went to work for the Post Office as a parcel postman.

Comment: I bought my first record there! Marcie Blane's Bobby's Girl.
