Comment: I remember going into Nicklins, I believe it was on The Square, and listening to records in the booths with headphones, very big ones, not like now, they are so small you can hardly see them.

Comment: I bought my first record from Nicklins and seem to remember that it had moved to The Square. A very atmospheric shop!

I found this in the 'North Devon Journal' dated 2nd November 1950:
“HIS MASTER'S VOICE Radiograms, Radio, Gramophones, Records, Etc. ONLY AT NICKLIN'S, The Square, BARNSTAPLE. Phone 2005. WE ALSO HAVE BRANCHES AT BIDEFORD & ILFRACOMBE.”
...and this in the 9th November 1950 edition:
“NEW RECORD DEPARTMENT Under expert supervision, with first-class Equipment and A STOCK OF NEARLY 3,000 RECORDS is now open at NICKLIN'S, The Music and Radio Centre, THE SQUARE, BARNSTAPLE. TELEPHONE 2005. COME AND CHOOSE YOUR DISCS IN COMFORT.”
