Name: Martin Shipperley.
Comment: Movement specialised in independent record labels and was the only shop in the country to sell the original demo cassette release by Ride. It was also a member of The Chain With No Name, a marketing group operated by Rough Trade distribution to support independent bands and labels such as Sonic Youth, Loop, etc. Owned by Martin Shipperley who also was employed by Bogarts who had shops in Banbury, Bicester, Kidlington, Didcot, Abingdon, and Headington in Oxfordshire, as well as Tring, Leighton Buzzard, and Thatcham. I also worked for J and J Records and Video Ltd in Hemel Hempstead, Berkhamstead, and Hatfield in Herts. I also remember fondly record shops such as Cloud 7 in St Albans and the old town in Hemel Hempstead, and Manic Hedgehog in Oxford.

Name: DJ Dave Pearce
Comment: I used to get my records from Movement Records in Southampton which is where James Zabellia and John Doe worked.

My first regular gigs were shows hosted by James and John on local radio station Max FM.

Fond memories of Movement records. Me and all the indiekids used to get our records from there. We used to bug Martin a lot. We were the Walkman generation so we’d always be asking “Have you got it on tape?” New Close Lobsters? New Pastels? Shop Assistance? I went to the local Banbury art school with Ride too!

I used to work upstairs at movement sound and lighting with Mike before they got their own store in Bitterne. I believe MSL is now the DJ Shop and probably still owned by Kevin. Those were the days!
