I found an advert in the 'Middlesex Chronicle' dated 3rd April 1964: “CLASSICAL - FOLK MUSIC - RHYTHM & BLUES - STOCKISTS OF BLUE BEAT RECORDS - 24 HOUR SPECIAL ORDER SERVICE - MELODY FAIR 100 HIGH STREET, STAINES. Phone: 52981.”

There was a Melody Fair record shop in Derby in the 1970s. Does anyone have any information please?

I used to go in there on a regular basis in the early 70’s.Downstairs was the record department and upstairs was a department that sold hi.fi.If I remember correctly most of the staff in the record department were female. They sold a wide range of genres as you would expect but also bootlegs.I bought a Led Zeppelin bootleg there-Live on Blueberry Hill. The staff were all very friendly and I got to know them as I went in every week.I bought all Frank Zappa’s early albums there prior to seeing him at the Oval ticket ground.Derby has had some great record shops over the years Wayahead,Reveal,Siren and Foulds. The last was primarily a musical instrument shop but had a record dept. at the back where I bought most of my albums of traditional music.
