I found an article in the ‘Lynn Advertiser’ dated 18th July 1972: “A NEW record shop has opened in Lynn and not one of the current Top Twenty will be on sale. The shop with a difference has opened in Norfolk Street and is called the Lynn Discery. Tony Jones, a newcomer to the area from Birmingham, has opened the shop to cater for the very popular Soul and Golden Oldies sounds.” ... and an advert in the ‘Lynn Advertiser’ dated 13th October 1972: “LYNN DISCERY 62 NORFOLK STREET (just below Co-op) Soul and Tamla Import Specialists. Also thousands of pop and progressive records in stock.”

I remember this small shop very well. Tony Jones specialised in Northern Soul and used to DJ. He sold only second-hand records, many were new American stock that had been deleted, called cut-outs because they had a slot or a hole punched in them. I bought many obscure records here from 1972 until 1975. Tony would put them aside for me as I visited every week. I think the shop closed by 1980.

Hi, I used to use this place all the time. The guy I remember selling/running it was named Barry Tyler - nicknamed Butch.
He passed away earlier this week RIP Barry Tyler
What a record store though - I remember the American imports with the hole in the corner - think I’ve still got a couple in their plastic
