Up that staircase to the right was one of the homes of the record dept. I remember they had a HUGE overstock of David Bowie's Lodger album and bought it there for 75p.

“We can't even count how many times people told us they wanted to bring back Keddies. It was definitely in the top three most popular choices in our Facebook post. Keddies was a small chain of department stores and the Southend branch was the flagship. It sold everything from penny goods to fancy items, including electricals, fashion, clocks, glassware, home furnishings, books and games, all spread across four floors. Keddies went into administration in 1996 and the people of Southend were horrified. Thousands of people raced to grab closing down bargains and to say goodbye to the much-loved shop.”
