I found this advert in the 'Liverpool Daily Post' dated 11th March 1940: “JAMES SMITH & SON (MUSIC SELLERS) LTD., 76-72 LORD STREET, LIVERPOOL. NEW EASTER GRAMOPHONE RECORD ISSUES NOW ON SALE - also MERSEYSIDE'S BIGGEST STOCK OF SHEET MUSIC. Come in and inspect the Huge Display.”

When Everton FC installed their first Marconi Public Address system in January 1932 (first used v Liverpool), all the records played were supplied by James Smith & Son. (The source for this is the Everton FC Board Minutes held in the 'Everton Collection' in Liverpool Record Office.
