I found this advert in 'The Scotsman' dated 26th April 1958:

“Gramophone Record Department - MANAGERESS required for new gramophone record department in large Edinburgh departmental store; applicants must be fully experienced in the ordering, retailing and controlling stocks of all agencies; this is an important appointment and preference will be given to applicants now holding a similar employment position; salary by arrangement. P.P. General Manager, J. & R. Allan, South Bridge, Edinburgh.”

… and this piece in the 'Edinburgh Evening News' dated 17th January 1961:

“MR ACKER BILK WILL MAKE A PERSONAL APPEARANCE TO AUTOGRAPH HIS RECORDS AT THE JOHN MENZIES RECORD DEPARTMENT OF J. & R. ALLAN Ltd., 74-87 SOUTH BRIDGE, EDINBURGH.”
