The owner was Jack Bartlett (a First World War hero) and the son was Dennis.

Dennis owned a carpet shop across the street as well. (Apropos of nothing: Dennis was mates with Eric Morley who set up and owned the Miss World competition and Mecca Bingo. Dennis won the contract to carpet every Mecca bingo hall in the UK.)

So they earned well and were squarely in the 'Gin and Jags' set of well-to-do suburbanites.

Dennis’ wife Daphne (pictured) ran the record shop, from 1970 to c.1978. Labi Siffre was a regular customer.

I still have some LPs purchased 1970-1974. I have the inners as a memento. It was as much sheet music and instrument as recordings. Saturday job down the road, some of the earnings went on Pink Floyd, Rod Stewart.
