I found this piece in the 'Gainsborough Evening News' dated 19th January 1992:
“THERE'S good news on the horizon for all music fans with the arrival of a new record shop in town. So far the monopoly has been with Woolworths, particularly since the demise of the Record Cellar, but Happy But Twisted Records on Church Street, is going to change all that. HBT’s racks will contain a vast range of of Rock, Pop and Independent Music from 1977 to the present day, as well as budget priced ranges of easy listening, Sixties and country tracks for all ages. HBT have their finger on the pulse of the current record scene as they attend major exhibitions and collector record fairs all over the UK.”
… this advert in the 26th January edition:
“Records/Tapes/CD's - HAPPY BUT TWISTED – ROCK, POP & INDIE SPECIALISTS. Come to Gainsborough for Mums and Dads 'easy listening', COUNTRY & WESTERN * 60's in stock - LPs - Tapes £1.99 - CD's £3.99. WE BUY/SELL OR EXCHANGE. Open Thursday / Friday only 9.45 to 5.15 pm. 41 CHURCH STREET, (opposite Timberman), GAINSBOROUGH.”
… and this piece in the 2nd February 1993 edition:
“For the record - HAPPY he certainly appears to be, but is Ian Jakeman, manager of Gainsborough's newest record shop, twisted? Happy But Twisted, the name of the store, refers to the first single by 80s band Dr. and The Medics, but the type of material on offer there covers most of the rock and pop spectrum, aiming at the more specialist collectors market. “I tend to cater towards the current independent and alternative scene, bands like Nirvana and Soundgarden, but I'm building up a good stock of late 60s/early 70s at the moment as well,” said Ian. HBT's racks will also contain a budget-priced range of easy listening and country albums, so there's pretty much something for everyone. Ian has worked in the music business since leaving school, including a two-year spell managing the music department in a W. H. Smith store, and a period spent running a chain of independent record shops in Hertfordshire.”
