Always remember their sale with their sticker on it, Nazareth 'Rampant' LP. Jewish family from Newton Mearns owned it.

My dad got all his Beatles records there. On the day they came out. (First pressings... I may have appropriated them!) They have a Gloria's stamp. He went to Queen's Park Secondary School, across the road at Grange Road.

I'm sitting in the Kothel Cafe, 236 Battlefield Road, just now! The young staff are amazed that it used to be Gloria's. One Saturday in 1974, having persuaded my dad to part with his much-loved mono radiogram and buy a crappy wee stereo, we stopped on the way home at Gloria's so that I could buy an album to play on it. Queen's 'Sheer Heart Attack' was released that day and I bought it. Still have it. Those were the days. Tell young people that, nowadays, they don't believe you! LOL.

My sister bought me a record token for Christmas 1975 I bought my first single with it, which was 'Bohemian Rhapsody' by Queen, in Gloria’s Record Bar. Could never walk past this iconic shop without a browse at the huge collection of records.

Gloria's didn't move to Mount Florida. There was another shop their called Soundtrack. I bought many records there. I even bought a deck with four speakers. If my memory is correct the gentleman who owned it, his first name was Hugh and he gave me many discounts.

As an 8 year old my mother took me into Gloria’s around Xmas 1973 looking for Merry Christmas by Slade, I couldn’t remember the name of the record, ended up they sold me Lamplight by David Essex, so disappointed when I got home. Happy days 😄

Comment: Anyone remember Gloria's Record Bar on Battlefield Road, close to Langside bus garage? I think it might have been Tom Russell (of Radio Clyde Friday Night Rock Show fame) who owned it? I also think it moved to Mount Florida in the early 1970s.

Comment: I worked there 1969-1972 and was buyer/manageress. Gloria's Record Bar was owned and run by the Blint family: Howard Blint was the manager. The shop was named after Howard's sister, Gloria. Mrs. Blint also worked there - Howard's mum. They also owned East Kilbride Music Centre.

Comment: Hi Jan, such happy memories of times gone by. I shopped in the Battlefield branch until you opened up in East Kilbride where we lived. I loved all the Petula Clark records around that time, and pre-ordered them from you, getting my father to drive me down. Am I remembering this correctly, but think I may have bought a portable radio from the East Kilbride shop on "easy payments"? Kind regards to you - Willie.

Comment: I am killing time in Battlefield and am standing outside what was Gloria's Record Bar. I was just a wee boy when my parents bought me the first With The Beatles album there and as there was a fault on it, hastily returned it to Gloria's. Oh, how I wish they had kept it, as it would be worth a fortune now!
It was a nice wee shop and the elderly gentleman serving was very friendly.
Many albums followed including his recommendation to try a new band he thought may go places with their first album, which I bought from him - Dire Straits! How right he was.
Happy days!
