I found this advert in the 'Hampstead News' dated 3rd February 1955: “Family Favourites – in a cinema. Who is your favourite singing star? Which tune would you vote top of the hit parade? During the next few weeks these questions can be answered by patrons of the Gaumont Cinema, Edgware Road. The manager, Mr. O. C. Parry, is asking them to put their suggestions in a box provided at the theatre and from February 29 the tunes will be played during the intervals. Patrons, whose records are selected, will be notified the week before their tunes are played and each selection will be played during intervals for one week. Combining with Mr. Parry in the scheme are Messrs. Giljay Ltd., of Church Street, St. Marylebone, who will provide the records.”
... and this in the 21st June 1956 edition:
“GILJAY'S of 84 CHURCH STREET. For all Makes and Speeds of RECORDS. As played in your three Local Cinemas. Personal attention assured to all customers.”
... plus this in the 'Marylebone Mercury' dated 18th July 1972:
“Stand by for GILJAY'S BIG SALE. LONG PLAYERS FROM 40p. CASSETTES plus 8-TRACKS FROM 90p. ALL BRAND NEW AND WELL KNOWN NAMES. STARTING 10 A.M. FRIDAY, 25th FEBRUARY, 84 CHURCH STREET, N.W.8. 01-723 1011.”
... and this in the 14th March 1975 edition:
“SALE OF RECORDS & TAPES from 50p. Starts Monday, March 17th, 12 O'Clock • GILJAY LIMITED 114 CHURCH STREET, N.W.8 (Off Edgware Road). Tel. 723 1011.”
