Gary Crowley recalls this shop on Saturdays in his youth with his sister queuing at the fruit and veg stall hearing Roxy Music's Both Ends Burning. DJ Steve Walsh and Courtney Pine were also local so would also have known Giljay's.

Name: John Sheather
Comment: My bedroom (Cherwell House) was right above Giljay's and as a youngster I would sit in my bedroom window and listen to the music blaring from the Giljay's stall on a Saturday afternoon. Folks would dance in the triangular area in front of the store. "Max at the Met" was a crowd favourite (Max Miller). Years later I volunteered as a DJ at the Whittington Hospital in Highgate and Joe Giljay would lend all the records to play on my show.
