I found this piece in the 'Nottingham Evening Post' dated 7th June 1996: “Record shops like Funky Monkey and Music Inn offer all the mainstream chart releases but also specialise in areas of dance music, including imports and rarities.”
… and this listing in the 27th November 1999 edition: “Funky Monkey 14 Goosegate, Hockley, Nottingham NG1 IFF. Tel: 0115 956 1181.”

I was working in designer Paul Smith's Clifton Warehouse, & loads of the staff & management were into electronic music (ambient/house/techno etc.) One such person had a bit of an addiction to cater for & was selling his records weekly. I bought most of them, & the rest he would take down to Funky Monkey.
I was in there straight away, the staff were sound & the selection was brilliant (it was the 90's, it was all brilliant). Snagged a few rarities, tonnes of D.I.Y related stuff, but my 2 picks that remind me of the times, and digging in the store, are 'Cassius – Dinapoly Versus Foxxy Lady' & 'Trankilou – Escalope De Dingue EP'.
