Jeannie Blumire Gosh yes, he was so knowledgeable about everything.
Simon Thrower He was there in the 80s
John ScalesStudley.Estate. I knew two sisters that lived in the block above .Eric had a disability in his hands if i remember. Which make it all the more remarkable that he gave guitar lessons
Ken TancredHis name was Eric Whiting, he opened that shop when Studley Estate was built, before he was on the other side of Clapham Road. He played guitar professionally as a young man and was a member of the famous Ted Heath Band and a session musician. I think he contracted polio or a similar debilitating disease which left him crippled for life. I had a guitar bought from him and had guitar lessons there (2s/6p per session) every Monday and we used to jam in the shop on all the instruments that were for sale. He had a son a couple of years younger than me who also went to Henry Thornton School, think his name was Chris Whiting.
Ken TancredThere were several guys he taught who went on to be professional musicians, seem to remember one was a drummer in the Gary Glitter Band. It was a little goldmine for record collectors of vinyl 45's, EP's, LP's & 12" imports from the USA .... and he sold the sheet music to learn the tunes (published by Boosy & Hawkes etc.) There were gigs by bands he taught at Stockwell Community Association Hall on Thursday nights and dances at the local Church Hall on the corner of Jeffries Road .... it was all The Shadows, Cliff, Marty Wilde, Billy Fury etc., before the Beatles came along.
