OFF-BEAT AND OBSCURE

Discurio, 9 Shepherd Street, W1 (HYD 6924) specialise in newly imported records from all over the world, including folk music from places like Egypt, Bolivia, Brazil and Australia, lots of Greek Bouzouki music and weird-sounding discs from Timbuctoo. They also have a good choice of jazz (but not modern) and blues records, many made by living ‘classical’ composers. The field is so wide that their records cover both classical and pop—for example, folk, small group, military band music, and all manner of songs and popular records described as ‘pop’ from around the world. They will order anything specially for you from abroad. Open Mon-Fri 1 to 8 p.m. Sat. Half-day, Saturday. Saturday 20 August 1966

I found an advert in ‘The Tatler’ dated 6th August 1966:
“GRAMOPHONE RECORD SALES NOW ON. DISCURIO'S SUMMER SALE of genuine record bargains, including deletions, foreign range samples and stock deletions prior to stocktaking. Mon-Fri 10 am to 8 pm. Sat 1 pm. DISCURIO. 9 Shepherd Street, London, W.1. (Behind the Hilton Hotel).”

My father was an avid collector of Military band Records from around the world, while I collected Soundtracks. I remember visiting Discurio on several occasions. They stocked niche genres and catered to both our tastes. I'm pretty sure I bought "The Fantasy Film World of Bernard herrmann" on DECCA Phase4 from there
