Comment: The shop opened up before I was born but brings back memories - the reggae hub in Forest Gate. First black-owned record store and turned into a video shop in the 1980s. He was a pioneer, my grand-uncle Lester - REIP.

Comment: I lived on Whyteville Road as a kid which was next to it. Remember the music pumping loudly out of it as we played football at the top of the street.

I remember this store so vividly as I used to frequently visit in the early 1980s. What a fantastic atmosphere. Lester owned or managed the whole building as far as I know (he rented a room up top to a dear friend) and I used to often participate in the fun in the basement too. Such memorable days (and nights). I have some old (albeit somewhat grainy by today's standards) photos of it still, and of course some wonderful reggae and dub vinyl records. Great times and the best music.
