I found this advert in the ‘Reading Mercury’ dated 7th December 1918:
“BARNES & AVIS, Ltd. (THE practical Piano and Player Piano Experts), 5 & 7, Duke Street, Reading. Your Music & Records for Xmas. ’Phone 971.” ... and this announcement in the ‘Reading Standard’ dated 1st December 1939: “THE NEW PREMISES OF BARNES & AVIS. The removal of this old Reading musical business having been successfully carried through, Messrs. Barnes and Avis are now established in their well-equipped new premises at 140 and 141, Friar Street.”
