I found this advert in the ‘Aldershot News’ dated 24th April 1964:
“RECORD DEPT. Top in Pops, Large Selection of Jazz, Blues, Classics. Large number of New L.P.s. BARNES & AVIS LTD., 25 WELLINGTON STREET, ALDERSHOT. Telephone 24274.”

I found this advert in the ‘Reading Mercury’ dated 7th December 1918:
“BARNES & AVIS, Ltd. (THE practical Piano and Player Piano Experts), 5 & 7, Duke Street, Reading. Your Music & Records for Xmas. ’Phone 971.” ... and this announcement in the ‘Reading Standard’ dated 1st December 1939: “THE NEW PREMISES OF BARNES & AVIS. The removal of this old Reading musical business having been successfully carried through, Messrs. Barnes and Avis are now established in their well-equipped new premises at 140 and 141, Friar Street.”

I found this classified ad. In the ‘Surrey Advertiser’ dated 5th May 1962:
“Sales Assistant, 16 to 17 years of age, required for record department, experience not essential, training will be given. Apply to: Barnes Avis Ltd., 36 High Street, Guildford.” ... and this piece in the ‘Surrey Advertiser’ dated 1st May 1970: “The Barnes Avis records department carries one of the widest selections in the County, from the latest to the finest classics. Facilities for listening to your selection with experts available to assist you in your choice.”
