“ARCADE RADIO, 7 The Arcade and 9 Bull Plain. Tel. HERTFORD 2697.”
...and this in the 13th May 1960 edition:
“ARCADE RADIO, 7, 10, 12 The Arcade, Hertford. Telephone: Hertford 2697.”
...and this in the 12th March 1965 edition:
“NOW'S YOUR CHANCE TO MEET 'THE WHO' the group whose record of 'I CAN'T EXPLAIN' is in the charts now. SEE THEM IN PERSON at 4.30 p.m. TODAY (FRIDAY MARCH 12) at Arcade Radio, THE ARCADE, HERTFORD.”
...and this in the 25th April 1980 edition:
“TRADERS in the Arcade, Hertford are furious at the blocking off of the bus station and adjacent car parks prior to work starting on the Hertford town centre redevelopment scheme. They claim the move has cut their trade by 30 to 50 per cent and was premature because work has still to begin. They are also angry at the way members of East Herts Planning Committee decided to allow the Bull Plain end of the Arcade to be blocked off to provide parking for two lorries. This they claim will deal the final blow to The Arcade. Mr Tony Waller, who leases shops in the Arcade, said he thought the owners wanted the Arcade to become derelict and an eyesore so they would get permission to demolish it and replace it with larger shops with two, three or more floors of offices on top. He said the councillors had sold the Arcade traders up the river in granting permission for the lorry bay. Mr B. R. Cullum of Arcade Radio said they were prepared for the bus station and car parks to be cut off while work on the town centre was in progress but it was wrong for them to be shut off before the builders were ready to start work. Since the closure he had lost 30 per cent of his trade. Now people only walked there to buy specific items.”
...plus this in the 13th February 1981 edition:
“HERTFORD may lose Arcade Radio, the longest-serving business in the Arcade, Bull Plain, although the owner of the shop would like to continue trading in the town. The Arcade, including outhouses and extensions, is to be demolished to allow for new shops and offices.”
