I also worked in the Arcade Music Shop which was the 'in' place to be and in the 1960s it was a fantastic era in every sense of the word. I loved it. What with The Beatles and Tamla Motown and soul music plus the stereo sound had just become available and you had a choice when you bought an LP, mono or stereo?

David Howman also worked there and went on to be a good musician. Mr Rumerlow owned the shop and his two sons Mark and Paul took over the running of it. I worked in the record side of it and we had booths for people to stand and listen to the latest releases.

Cliff Richard came in once while I was there, also Frankie Vaughan and the Beverley Sisters.

I was a local and used to go to Arcade music regularly in the 1980’s. I remember one particular purchase. I had seen Christine, the movie about a car with an evil mind of its own. Any there was a particular song ‘bad to the bone’ no idea who by. Went in to Arcade music shop the next day and told about the song and just like that, the album was found and purchased by my. Album George Thorogood & the destroyers- Back to the Bone. I still have the album. No looking a computer, none around then, just good old knowledge. Fantastic shop.
