Name: Kevin Thomas
Comment: I was the owner of Arcade Records in Nottingham which was originally in the West End Arcade before moving out to a two-floor shop calling us Arcade 2 in Chapel Bar literally less than 100 yards away. I bought the original business from Ben Parker when he opened another store in the Arcade which did not take off. Cost me about £1,000 all in. After 10 years in the Arcade we did another 17 before calling it a day in 2000. Beaten by the internet and supermarket discounting but when the building owners wanted to sell up to developers so they could build a hotel etc. I did not bother to look for other city centre premises.

Kevin, great to see Arcade Records pop up, and your name, I supplied you for about five years when I was with Greyhound Records. You and I used to speak several times a week, mostly imports. I am still in the music business. Happy days, my friend.

I found this advert in the 'Nottingham Evening Post' dated 25th November 1995: “MERRY CHRISTMAS from Arcade Records, 15 Chapel Bar (next to MGM Cinema). Open Sunday because of new customers from our low prices. Tel: 9474932.”

Used to buy loads of Hi-NRG and Italo records back in the late 1980s. Wonderful staff and shop.

Just found a receipt from Arcade Records dated 11/4/88 - £4.99 for a Megadeth album, great price - here’s to wishful thinking I can get one now for £4.99!

I used to come over most Saturdays from Grantham. I would buy a lot of vinyl from you. I remember you had a guy on the turntables playing a lot of the new releases. Awesome days. Thanks.

In the late 1970s and early 1980s, disco, jazz-funk and soul music were my passion and Arcade Records fuelled it. That record store was my first port of call on a Saturday morning. Every week I wandered in and listened to the latest releases on UK and import vinyl. Could only buy a small number of records as I was short of cash but always came away happy regardless. The vibe, the crowd and the owners made the experience one which I sorely miss and will never forget. Big shout out to Jonathan the DJ and my old friend Paul Sherwood, both of whom were in the store usually on the same day as me.

Our family moved to Pompey in 1983 and although there were decent record shops there, none matched the quality of Arcade Records. Sad to read it is no longer there.

Loved that shop! Spent most of my pocket money there on everything from New Model Army to Madonna.
