Comment: Allders of Croydon had a very good record department in their arcade during the late 1960s and 1970s. It was located on the right-hand side of the arcade, as you were walking from North End, close to the George Street exit. I bought Deep Purple’s first Harvest LP Book Of Taliesyn and In The Court Of The Crimson King by King Crimson there in 1969. They had a good selection of classical records too.

I found this advert in the 'Croydon Times' dated 15th December 1928:
“Hear the New Christmas Records at ALLDERS GRAMOPHONE DEPARTMENT. All the newest numbers of H.M.V., Columbia, Regal, Parlophone and Broadcast Records Stocked. Gramophones from 28/6.”
... and this in the 18th March 1960:
“ALLDERS of CROYDON have vacancies in the following departments for Sales: YOUNG LADY for RECORD DEPARTMENT, age 16 to 18. YOUNG MAN for RADIO & TELEVISION, age 16 to 18. Good opportunity for the right person, good wages and staff shopping privileges. Also canteen facilities and social section. Apply: STAFF CONTROLLER, ALLDERS, NORTH END, CROYDON.”
... plus this in the 'Surrey Mirror' dated 4th September 1964:
“MUSIC FOR LEISURE. The Largest Selection of LPs in Southern England. EMI RECORD TOKENS, EMI 3.75 IPS TWIN-TRACK TAPE RECORDS, RECORDINGS FOR THE STEREO ENTHUSIAST, FOREIGN RECORDS. Allders Ltd., North End to George St. Croydon. CR0 4477.”
