Comment: Closed in 1986 or very close to it and I went to their closing down sale (and most of it was rubbish). As a 15-year-old looking for original 1950s R&R 45s I used to visit it in 1976 all the way from Streatham (I remember the long hot summer and the council estate just along Roman Way was being built) but I thought the staff were obnoxious - right up themselves.

Comment: Used to visit this place such a lot in the 1970s; don't suppose it's still there, is it?

Comment: Used to visit this shop in the 1970s - run by a couple of knowledgeable blokes. They were quite helpful if you happened to be looking for their favourite stuff (1950s rockabilly) - me, I was into 1960s stuff at the time. Having said that me and my mate spent many happy hours there on Saturdays - must have spend many £100s! They were good for USA imports - I still have all those singles now residing somewhere in my garage. All my stuff is now on mp3 (says me, tin hat on and running for shelter!)

First time I've ever been called 'obnoxious'. Even today, I quite often bump into old customers. It's nice that most say it was always their favourite collectors record shop. To me they were great days, with great customers and of course... great music!

Comment: Loved that shop, went there several times, 1977ish, I remember buying Don't Mean Maybe Baby — Alvis Wayne, and Enie Meanie Minie Mo — Hoyt Johnson, also used to do Rock On, Moondogs & At The Hop.

Comment: Remember the Vintage Record Store well. Used to travel there some weeks from home in East London. It was just around the corner from Caledonian Road Tube Station, if memory serves me correctly. Got several vintage rock and rockabilly records there. Closed about 1985, I think.

Comment: Loved the Vintage Record Centre. First found it around 1974 from an ad in the NME, and my first visit turned up a copy of Mott's Brain Capers - in those days when their early albums were very hard to find.

For the next two or three years, I went there as often as I could afford it... and I never came home empty-handed.

Loved that shop. Probably went there first around 1974 - came up from Croydon on the bus then tube: I remember it was a filthy wet Saturday afternoon, and the place was wall to wall with ageing Teds. Went back often until the family moved away around '85, though it was a lot quieter in later years. Bought some brilliant stuff there over the years.
