Comment: I headed off looking for No 479, home of ‘The Memphis Soul Pad’ record shop. After what seemed like an age here it was… just opposite Slaidburn Street and like most similar shops of its ilk it was tiny but packed with magical records, including American imported LPs, which I just had to pick up and handle – interestingly I don’t recall any US 45s. And after soaking it all in, of all of the things I could have bought I left with a Percy Sledge French picture sleeve and a couple of 45s I could have bought at home but I just needed to boast that I’d been there to buy records.

Comment: I bought my first US import 45 here - I Guess I'll Always Love You by the Isley Brothers on Tamla Twin Globes.

I found this in an article in the 'Kensington Post' dated 27th September 1968: “... You go round the bend at World's End and continue in the Kings Road for a few hundred yards and you'll find it - Memphis Soul Pad. More or less a one-man show at a shop, run by a young musician...”
