While searching the British Newspaper Archive I found these adverts for STACEYS of Fareham, Hampshire:
‘Hampshire Telegraph’ dated 3rd August 1956:
“STACEYS 16 WEST STREET, FAREHAM. Telephone 2055 & 3218. LONG PLAYING RECORDS, AND ALL MAKES OF RECORD PLAYERS (Ground Floor).”
‘Portsmouth Evening News’ dated 24th November 1960:
“FOR THE LATEST IN POP & CLASSICAL RECORDS, RECORD PLAYERS, ETC. COME STRAIGHT TO: ‘STACEYS’ 16 WEST STREET, FAREHAM. A Selection of Christmas Records Now in Stock.”
.
They have been established for over 100 years and describe themselves as ‘THE COMPLETE IRONMONGERY, HARDWARE, ELECTRICAL and SPORTS GEAR SHOP’ in a 1957 advert in the ‘Portsmouth Evening News’ and were selling records and gramophones in 1932, as this advert in the ‘Hampshire Telegraph’ dated 16th December 1932 shows: “FOR LASTING PLEASURE - A. C. STACEY, 16, WEST STREET, FAREHAM. 'PHONE 205. Agents for HIS MASTER'S VOICE, COLUMBIA, MARCONI, PHILCO. All 1933 Models in Stock.”
