I remember going there at lunchtime from Blessed Teds, I bought the entire pre-Brian Johnson AC/DC from there.

I found this article in the ‘Abergele & Pensam Visitor’ dated 28th April 1988: “IN October 1979 the Kavern Record and Video Company opened their first shop in Sussex Street, Rhyl. It was a new venture for the owner Kevan Cripps but it was also the start of what has become the Kavern chain. Kevin’s second shop in Mostyn Street, Llandudno didn’t open until August 1986, but this year Kevin has opened branches in The Square, Kinmel Bay and in Wellington Road and Rhuddlan Road, Rhyl. Next month he will add a further branch in Chester.”

Not sure how you could miss Scott MacDonald from the employees list - worked there from the early 1990s until it closed. A legend!

Comment: Kavern Records was an independent record shop chain that started as an alternative stall at Rhyl's indoor market. It had two major outlets in Rhyl (Sussex Street, then High Street) and Llandudno (Upper Mostyn Street) with a number of video hire outlets between the towns. Run by Kevan Cripps. Previous employees included Scratch (ex-Mercenary Skank), Magic Pete, and Dave Griffiths (ex-Joie de Vivre). The store in Rhyl closed in 2005, followed by Llandudno in late 2006.

Comment: Used to visit Kavern Records Llandudno between lessons in Llandrillo College and flick through the CDs.
Remember taking a punt on the new band that Dave Grohl had set up. Still have that CD but not sure if Foo Fighters ever amounted to anything.

Comment: I worked in Kavern from 1997-1999. So many memories of the video store in particular.
