I found this advert in the 'Manchester Evening News' dated 4th April 1979: “JOHN MENZIES Record Department at our new Market Street, Manchester store, due to open shortly. We require a man or a woman who can make a hit as one of the Record Department. To be a success you should have had previous relevant experience - from rock to classical - in a busy record department. This chart topping appointment offers a salary to reflect knowledge and ability required. Fringe benefits are first class, including excellent staff discounts on purchases. Record your application in writing to: Mr. M. Cunningham, John Menzies (Holdings) Ltd., 29 Melville Road, Stretford.”
