I found this in the 'Banbury Guardian' dated 7th November 1957: “HAYDN HEARD for RECORDS, SHEET MUSIC, INSTRUMENTS, ACCESSORIES, Record Audition Studios, 12 Church Lane, Banbury.”
...and this in the 26th January 1961 edition:
“HAYDN HEARD LTD. OUR ONLY SHOP: 12 CHURCH LANE, BANBURY Phone 2397.”
...and this on page 12 of the 2nd December 1965 edition: “Haydn Heard - In 1957, Haydn Heard, a professional musician for over 40 years opened the record shop in Church Lane which, with the help of his daughter and co-director Barbara, prospered from the start. Mr. Heard finds his years of practical experience in the field of concert music invaluable in advising customers on their choice of recordings. At Haydn Heard Ltd. the choice of record is not limited to the classics. Light music and the current pop hits are there in profusion. The other members of the staff, Barbara Heard, Pat Stocker and Christine Hisom are always happy to assist the customers in any way.”
...plus this advert on the same page:
“HAYDN – HEARD LTD. RECORDS AND MUSIC – MONO, STEREO, LONG PLAY FROM 10/-; RECORD TOKENS ISSUED AND EXCHANGED, RECORD CASES & RACKS - IDEAL FOR CHRISTMAS GIFTS - MUSICAL INSTRUMENTS: SCHOOL RECORDERS - TUTORS, DESCANT, TREBLE, TENOR, BASS - HARMONICAS - AUTO HARPS – GUITARS: FOLK / ELECTRIC - AMPLIFIERS - MIC’s – PICK-UPS; PREMIER - OLYMPIC DRUM KITS; EVERPLAY HEADS - CYMBALS – ACCESSORIES. 12 CHURCH LANE, BANBURY. Phone 2397.”
...and this announcement in the 20th December 1979 edition: “NOW OPEN - EKINS NEW LINENS SHOP at 12 CHURCH LANE (Formerly Haydn Heard Record Shop).”
...which would indicate that Haydn Heard had closed down earlier in 1979.
...plus this announcement of his wife's death in 1982 gives his full name: “Mrs. Nellie Smart Heard, wife of the late Mr. Walter Haydn Heard, who ran Banbury’s Haydn Heard music shop, died at a Sutton Coldfield nursing home last Wednesday, aged 88.”
