Comment: Owned by the McNaughton Sisters (Mike and Steve) who were previously owners of the sadly-missed Listen and Bloggs stores in Glasgow, Paisley, and Edinburgh. Echo was actually housed in the Byres Road premises formerly occupied by a Listen shop (known as "sleepy hollow" to staff) but never reached the depths of the former.

There was a part-time member of staff there called Nancy MacFarlane who deserves a mention. She had a great flat in Crown Circus and still lives in the area.

I found this piece in the 'Kilmarnock Standard' dated 24th December 1993: “VINYL dead? Don't believe a word! The Echo record store, in Glasgow’s Byres Road, is leading the fight to retain the 12-inch album with some scintillating super savers. John Stewart’s brilliant 1987 set 'Punch The Big Guy' tops the bargain best-sellers list at a mere 99p! But there are dozens of astounding cheapies to be bought over the Echo counter. Other incredible ‘giveaways’ are: Jackson Browne’s 'World In Motion', Steve Earle’s 'Exit 0', Energy Orchard’s self-titled set and 'Stop The Machine', Georgia Satellites’ 'Open All Night' and Win’s 'Freaky Trigger' (all 99p). Steve Forbert’s 'The American In Me' is £1.99, Nils Lofgren’s 'Silver Lining' (£2.99), Love’s 'Forever Changes' (£3.99) plus loads of albums by Nanci Griffith, Joan Armatrading, John Cougar Mellencamp, The Big Dish, John Stewart, Public Image Ltd. and Talking Heads. The Echo 'cheap cheap sheet' is updated regularly.”
